Six Gibbons Attorneys Named to The 2013 Irish Legal 100

Gibbons P.C. is pleased to congratulate Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Thomas J. Cafferty, Anthony P. Callaghan, Phillip J. Duffy, Noreen M. Giblin, and G. Daniel McCarthy for being named to the Irish Legal 100, a nationwide network of some of the most distinguished and accomplished men and women of Irish heritage in the legal profession.
“Gibbons is proud of the Irish heritage that has helped define the firm since its founding in 1926,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of the firm.
Other notable 2013 Irish Legal 100 honorees included are U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy, and John J. Sullivan, former general counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce, among others.
Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director
Mr. Dunican is a nationally recognized legal industry leader who has been highlighted by Law360 as one of the nation’s most innovative law firm managing partners. He was elected Managing Director of Gibbons in 2004, at the age of 36. Under his leadership, the firm joined the Am Law 200 and was named to the National Law Journal’s inaugural “Midsize Hot List.” Mr. Dunican was the Grand Marshal of Newark’s 78th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. His selection was based on his, and the firm’s, longstanding commitment to Newark, as well as on his Irish heritage and active involvement with Irish American organizations. Mr. Dunican’s four grandparents were born in Counties Sligo, Mayo, and Donegal.
Thomas J. Cafferty, Team Leader, Media Law
Mr. Cafferty has extensive experience in litigating and counseling First Amendment and media issues, representing clients with regard to cameras in the courtroom, invasion of privacy and defamation, crisis management, the Shield Law, the Open Public Meetings Act, and public notice. He has served as General Counsel for the New Jersey Press Association for over 30 years and has worked with some of the largest news organizations and newspapers throughout the state. Mr. Cafferty’s great grandfather emigrated from County Sligo.
Anthony P. Callaghan, Director, Business & Commercial Litigation
Mr. Callaghan focuses on class action securities litigation, telecommunications matters, and contract disputes, in addition to general practice litigation in the areas of banking and drug product liability defense. Fully conversant with all aspects of New York and New Jersey state court procedures, Anthony served as a Federal Judicial Law Clerk and has predominant experience in the area of federal court litigation. He is listed in Super Lawyers for both New York and New Jersey. Mr. Callaghan is a founding member of the Irish American Bar Association of New Jersey, of which he currently serves as vice-president. He emigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1989, having grown up a native Irish speaker in Fanad, County Donegal.
Phillip J. Duffy, Director, Products Liability
Mr. Duffy is a member of the Laboratory Defense Team at Gibbons, part of the firm’s comprehensive products liability practice. He is also a founding member of the Gibbons E-Discovery Task Force, representing clients in this still-evolving area of law. Mr. Duffy is a nationally sought-after speaker and author on both laboratory defense and e-discovery topics. Mr. Duffy traces his roots on his father’s side to Aranmore, County Donegal. He is a member of the Irish American Bar Association of New Jersey.
Noreen M. Giblin, Counsel, Government Affairs
Prior to joining the Gibbons Government Affairs Department, New Jersey’s top lawyer-lobbying practice for five consecutive years, Ms. Giblin served as Chief of Staff to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. She is also the former Director of Executive Office Operations for Governor Jon S. Corzine, and, before that, State Director to United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg. Ms. Giblin is active with several Irish American organizations, including the Giblin Association.
G. Daniel McCarthy, Director, Corporate
Prior to joining the Gibbons Corporate Department in 2013, Mr. McCarthy served as the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Hewlett-Packard Financial Services Company. He was one of the founders of HPFS and was integral in building the company into a $13 billion international financial services business. He was the Director of Hewlett-Packard International Bank in Dublin, Ireland from 2003 to 2013. Mr. McCarthy is a co-founder and member of the Irish American Bar Association of New Jersey. Mr. McCarthy is second generation and holds an Irish passport. His grandparents were born in Counties Cork and Waterford.
