Barry Liss, a Director on the Healthcare Team at Gibbons P.C., was recently confirmed by the New Jersey Senate to the state’s Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund Commission, a financial assistance program for New Jersey families with children whose illnesses or conditions are not covered by insurance, state or federal programs, or other funding sources. The Fund is designed to help families cope with the many complex, critical responsibilities that accompany children’s significant health problems.

At Gibbons, Mr. Liss focuses on corporate and regulatory healthcare law, including accountable care organization development, integrated delivery systems, managed care, physician practices, hospital reimbursement, third party payor appeals, governmental payor disputes, provider network contracting, hospital vendor contracting, general hospital corporate representation, claim disputes between individuals and their health plans, and related areas of healthcare practice. Prior to joining Gibbons, he was a partner with a leading healthcare boutique law firm and, earlier, in-house counsel for Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, Inc.

The Gibbons Healthcare Team represents institutional and individual providers of healthcare services, including organized delivery systems, independent practice associations, physician practice groups, hospitals, federally qualified health centers, and home healthcare, visiting nurse, hospice, and other related business enterprises in the healthcare sector. The firm works in various capacities as outside general counsel, as well as with respect to regulatory matters, reimbursement issues, network contracting, and structuring of organizations, including integrated delivery systems, accountable care organizations, and other types of joint ventures and pilot programs involving payors and providers. The Team also handles fraud and abuse counseling and defense, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, management agreements, and divestitures, HIPAA compliance, and broader government affairs counseling.
