Christine A. Amalfe, Chair of Gibbons P.C.’s Employment & Labor Law Group, is among 41 business leaders throughout the state to receive a 2025 ICON Award from NJBIZ, one of New Jersey’s premier business news publications. She and her fellow honorees were acknowledged at an awards ceremony on May 20 at The Marigold in Somerset, New Jersey, and will be profiled in a special supplement to an upcoming issue of NJBIZ.
NJBIZ launched the ICON Awards program in 2017 to celebrate New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 who have achieved noteworthy success, demonstrated strong leadership and unique vision, and shown a longstanding commitment to the New Jersey business community. The ICON Awards acknowledge years of exceptional work in the state and in the winners’ respective industries. Ms. Amalfe is the eighth Gibbons attorney to receive this award, after Frank T. Cannone (2024), Peter J. Torcicollo (2023), Lawrence S. Lustberg (2022), Thomas J. Cafferty (2019), James R. Zazzali (2018), and retired Gibbons attorneys Karen A. Giannelli (2020) and Michael R. Griffinger (2017).
Ms. Amalfe has been appointed to and earned leadership positions at various professional organizations, most notably the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA), which just days ago, on May 15, installed her as its President. Further, she is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, and a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society comprising less than .5 percent of American lawyers.
At Gibbons, she manages lawyers across four of eight firm offices, overseeing legal, administrative, and business development functions for one of Gibbons’s most active business units, with clients among the world’s best-known companies representing industries critical to the local, regional, and state economies. Over her nearly 40-year career, she has provided counsel in some of New Jersey’s most high-profile and precedent-setting litigations and investigations, defended hundreds of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation cases, and tried many cases to verdict.
A staunch supporter of advancing women in the workplace, she co-founded the Gibbons Women’s Initiative, a Catalyst Award-winning effort that promotes engagement and empowerment through educational, networking, social, charitable, and mentoring programs. Within the broader legal and New Jersey business communities, she has been a member of both the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL), serving as NAWL Foundation President. She has also contributed to the New Jersey Council on Gender Parity in Labor and Education, helping create national and statewide programs and research projects addressing gender equity issues in various professions.
Under her leadership at Gibbons, the Employment & Labor Law Group was named New Jersey Law Journal’s (NJLJ) 2023 Labor and Employment Litigation Department of the Year. She, herself, has received numerous honors. Most notably, she was an inaugural NJLJ “Lifetime Achievement” honoree and is included among the region’s leading employment lawyers by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers®, and Thomson Reuters New Jersey Super Lawyers, which lists her among the state’s Top 10 attorneys and Top 50 female attorneys.
