Law360 Once Again Names Gibbons One of New Jersey’s Powerhouse Law Firms

August 2, 2021

Law360 has again named Gibbons P.C. a “New Jersey Powerhouse” law firm as part of the publication’s “Regional Powerhouses” series. Gibbons, which is one of only five firms selected in 2021, has been featured on this list numerous times since it was launched in 2014.

The 2021 New Jersey Powerhouse list comprises law firms selected for having “tackled novel pandemic-related developments and more in the litigation and transactional spheres dominated by the state’s thriving regional industries.” Gibbons was chosen for this feature based on its longstanding ties to groundbreaking matters with lasting impact on New Jersey’s most prominent industries and countless of its citizens, involving some of the region’s most significant corporate and real estate transactions, property developments, lobbying initiatives, and wide-ranging litigations. The article also discusses the firm’s recent outreach in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion – a particularly insightful agenda given the prominence of racial issues last year.

In highlighting recent victories in its Gibbons profile for the Powerhouse series, Law360 says, “Long considered a standout in the areas of white collar defense, real estate and politics, Gibbons P.C., founded in 1926, managed to break new frontiers in these arenas and also made inroads in the renewable energy and transactional spaces.” Examples of the firm’s recent successes cited in the article include the following:

Gibbons over the last year scored a precedential Third Circuit victory for a former Wilmington Trust Co. executive seeking to undo his securities fraud conviction, and it drew headlines for its work on a $2.5 billion waterfront redevelopment project on a Middlesex County brownfield site in an effort touted as the Garden State’s largest mixed-use project in history. The Newark-headquartered firm maintained its top spot on the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission’s 2020 list of prominent lobbying firms, due in part to a year-over-year 20% jump in that clientele base, and it also cemented its niche in renewable energy by representing Panasonic Corp. in the divestiture of its solar energy development interests.

The article also gives “an example of the firm’s responsiveness to cultural shifts,” discussing a Gibbons team’s efforts on behalf of client New Jersey Community Capital “to back a loan program for Black-owned businesses when the pandemic’s economic crush was compounded by the racial unrest in the wake of George Floyd’s killing.”

A quote from Chairman and Managing Director Patrick C. Dunican Jr. concludes the firm’s profile, in which he states, “Though we have offices in five states and the District of Columbia, and we serve clients all over the world, our roots are firmly planted in New Jersey.”
