Javier Diaz Joins Gibbons Government Affairs Department

Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Javier D. Diaz has joined the firm as an associate in the Government Affairs Department in the Trenton office.
Most recently, Mr. Diaz was Assistant Counsel to the Office of the Governor, State of New Jersey, where he negotiated with legislators, lobbyists, and state departments and advised the Governor on all aspects of complex legislation and litigation. Mr. Diaz concentrated on economic development and Treasury matters, with a particular focus on tax incentives and business development. He also led the consolidation of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and oversaw Military and Veterans’ Affairs for the Office of the Governor. He was the principal architect of the Governor’s initiative to save the Vets4Warriors program and worked with the Department of Health to develop a $5.5 million grant program to address veterans’ health issues.
From 2000 to 2006, Mr. Diaz served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, and the National Defense Service Medal, and his unit received the Department of State Superior Honor Award during his deployment to Afghanistan shortly after 9/11.

Mr. Diaz was a founding member of the Board of Legacy College Prep Charter School and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board. He also volunteers for Team Rubicon, a disaster recovery organization, and is a Wounded Warrior Project alumnus.
Prior to working in the Governor’s office, Mr. Diaz was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Anne Patterson, Supreme Court of New Jersey, as well as a summer associate at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP in Morristown, NJ, and a law clerk at Knight Capital Group in Jersey City, NJ.
Mr. Diaz earned his J.D. from the Seton Hall University School of Law, his M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler School of Business, and his B.A. from the University of Michigan. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
