Gibbons P.C. was selected as a finalist for the New Jersey Monthly Great Oak Awards and honored at the awards dinner, held on September 29, 2015 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, New Jersey.

The Great Oak Awards honor New Jersey businesses for their generosity to New Jersey’s charities and social causes, in terms of financial support, in-kind giving, volunteerism, and professional expertise. Gibbons was recognized for the firm’s exceptional pro bono efforts, community outreach, and charitable contributions.

The Gibbons pro bono platform comprises two highly regarded, active programs: a long-term pro bono endowment and a traditional pro bono program. Through the John J. Gibbons Fellowship in Public Interest & Constitutional Law, firm attorneys handle, on a pro bono basis, matters of cutting-edge legal importance and broad significance, addressing the most controversial issues confronting the federal and state courts, most recently with groundbreaking efforts in support of marriage equality. The firm’s traditional program serves those who cannot afford legal services, through engagement with nonprofit organizations and federal and state court appointments in criminal, immigration, probate, domestic violence, asylum, and virtually every other area of the law.

Through the firm’s charitable and community outreach platform, Gibbons Cares, employees throughout the firm are encouraged to lead efforts, champion causes and organizations, and donate time, energy, and organizational skills. The fundraising and activities launched under Gibbons Cares leverage employees’ pride in the firm’s history and achievements to make a lasting positive impact on the community.

Numerous other organizations and publications have recognized Gibbons for pro bono and charitable outreach, including Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, New Jersey State Bar Association, Law360, and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice. The firm’s 2015 American Lawyer national pro bono ranking reached #44, ahead of dozens of larger firms with more extensive resources. In addition, the firm was featured among only 25 law firms nationwide rated for pro bono and diversity policies and programs in the 2016 Vault Associate Survey, which ranked Gibbons 16th for pro bono.
