April 19, 2013

James R. Zazzali, Of Counsel at Gibbons P.C. and retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, has been recognized as a Charter Member of the New Jersey Academy of Mediators & Arbitrators (NJAMA), the newly launched local chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN).

Membership in NJAMA is by invitation only and consists of distinguished arbitrators and mediators with longstanding experience in civil and commercial conflict resolution and an acknowledged commitment to the practice of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Justice Zazzali is one of only 36 attorneys and judges statewide to be named Charter Members of NJAMA.

“Justice Zazzali continues to earn high-level recognition and tremendous respect from the state’s legal community,” notes Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons P.C. “This particular honor also brings with it an incredible opportunity for Justice Zazzali to continue to serve the people of New Jersey, as he has been doing throughout his storied career.”

At Gibbons, Justice Zazzali advises clients on such matters as corporate governance, institutional ethics, internal investigations, appeals, mediation, and arbitration. He joined Gibbons in 2007, after retiring from the bench. Justice Zazzali had served on the Supreme Court for over six years, and had written more than 100 opinions, before Governor Jon Corzine named him Chief Justice in 2006. Prior to his service on the bench, Justice Zazzali had served as general counsel for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority; Chairman of the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation; New Jersey Attorney General; Chief of the Appeals Division of the Office of the Essex County Prosecutor; as well as other positions in addition to his private law practice. He is also a former Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall Law School, where he taught alternative dispute resolution and arbitration.
