Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers have named Gibbons one of their 2012 “50 Best Law Firms for Women,” awarded for the firm’s family-friendly policies and business development initiatives designed to retain women attorneys and advance them into the leadership pipeline.
Gibbons is one of only eight law firms throughout the country to be included on this list every year it has been published since 2007. The feature on the firm is available here.
“Gibbons is committed to women’s professional advancement both within and outside the firm. We are proud that Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers recognize our efforts and the integral role our cutting-edge Women’s Initiative plays in these efforts,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons.
The publication states, “Whether they want to learn how to develop their personal brand, refine their presentation skills, better navigate the legal industry or generate more business, this firm’s female attorneys benefit by taking part in its Gibbons Leadership Academy, which offers informative classes, workshops and seminars. To further maximize their career potential, they may investigate the firm’s multiple mentoring programs or take advantage of the networking, education and training opportunities provided by its Women’s Initiative.”
Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers founded the 50 Best Law Firms for Women program in 2007 to celebrate the law firms that are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers. The initiative is also designed to give law firms benchmarking tools that enable them to improve the status of women in their firms in the future.
According to Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media, “The Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers 50 Best Law Firms for Women have led the way in creating new models for the rest of their profession in promoting women and developing more generous work life policies. These firms deserve recognition for working to improve women’s advancement and to equalize their compensation and access to business development.”
Deborah Epstein Henry, president of Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, notes, “These firms understand that their efforts towards women need to expand to not only focus on work/life issues, but also on women gaining access to sponsors as well as business development and leadership opportunities.”
Through its groundbreaking, award-winning Women’s Initiative, Gibbons provides for the firm’s new and senior women attorneys, along with their women business colleagues and clients, platforms and policies that improve knowledge, foster teamwork, encourage leadership, embrace flexibility, and support networking and mentoring. The Initiative has grown into a highly respected organization, with more than 60 Gibbons women attorneys involved and more than 2,000 invited women participants to its many programs. Among numerous related honors over the years, Gibbons was among the 2009 winners of the prestigious, international Catalyst Award, which honors major corporations with leading women’s initiatives and programs, and in 2012 earned the Women in Law Empowerment Forum’s Gold Standard Certification for the second straight year.
