It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank B. Reilly, Jr., a longtime Director in the firm’s Corporate Department. He was 75 years old.

Mr. Reilly joined the firm in 1979 and helped to build the Corporate Department, which has grown into one of the region’s most well-known and highly respected corporate practices, comprising nearly 30 attorneys in our Newark and New York offices. He focused his own practice on regional, national, and global merger and acquisition transactions, including negotiated acquisitions, cross border deals, strategic divestitures and mergers, competitive auctions, strategic alliances and joint ventures, and distressed company bankruptcy and UCC Article 9 sales. The more complex matters he handled for clients would regularly involve numerous diverse aspects, including intellectual property, regulatory, and international tax issues. Overall, Mr. Reilly advised on public and private transactions valued at over $1 billion. He also handled corporate finance transactions and, in recent years, wide-ranging energy project developments and investments, engaging in one of the country’s most cutting-edge and growing industries.

Mr. Reilly also had extensive experience in the financial services, healthcare, industrial gas, publishing, real estate, retail, transportation, telecommunications, and environmental sectors. In addition, he often represented tax exempt organizations, including the Institute for Supply Management, Inc. (ISM), a longtime key firm client.

“We have lost several of the most beloved, loyal, and accomplished members of our Gibbons family in the past few years, and now we must count Frank among them,” said Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of the firm. “The work he did for some of our most important clients helped to shape the firm’s practice and will continue to have a profound impact on Gibbons, as will the intelligence, warmth, and Irish humor that defined Frank’s personality and the relationships he had with his many close co-workers and clients.”

Mr. Reilly was born on October 9, 1945. He earned his B.S. in Accounting from St. Peter’s College in 1967 and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1970. Mr. Reilly served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1971-1973 before he went on to earn an LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1976. Among the many professional accolades he received throughout his nearly 50-year career were regular listings in Woodward/White Best Lawyers®; AV® Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell; ISM Presidential Citation for distinguished service to ISM; and the St. Peter’s College Distinguished Alumni Award in 1996. Mr. Reilly is survived by his wife, Cathy, and five children.
