Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Lauren James-Weir, a Director in the firm’s Commercial & Criminal Litigation Department and member of the Media Law Team, has been named one of the New Jersey Law Journal’s New Leaders of the Bar for 2019. Ms. James-Weir was honored at the Professional Excellence Awards Dinner held on June 12, 2019 at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, NJ, and will be profiled in a New Jersey Law Journal supplement later this month.

To be selected for the “New Leaders of the Bar” feature, rising legal stars under the age of 40 had to demonstrate distinct practice niches, leadership qualities, and a commitment to pro bono and charitable work.

“As Lauren increasingly handles substantial components of some of the largest, most significant First Amendment and media law cases that our clients bring to us, it is no wonder she is raising her profile throughout the New Jersey legal community and earning recognition like the ‘New Leaders of the Bar’ award,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons.

Ms. James-Weir was recognized primarily for the significant role she has played in advancing media law in the state of New Jersey. She represents both media and non-media clients in matters involving free speech; defamation; invasion of privacy; access to records under New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act and the federal Freedom of Information Act; access to meetings under New Jersey’s Open Public Meetings Act; access to courtrooms; cameras in the courtroom; the Newsperson’s Privilege; and legislative initiatives impacting the media. She works closely with numerous news organizations and newspapers throughout the tristate area on a variety of legal issues affecting the media and provides media clients with pre-publication review. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Media Law Committee and was selected to the New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars list in the Media & Advertising category.
