Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Kate E. Janukowicz, a Director in the firm’s Commercial & Criminal Litigation Group, has been named one of the New Jersey Law Journal’s New Leaders of the Bar for 2021. Ms. Janukowicz and the honorees for all current New Jersey Legal Awards will be recognized at an awards reception on September 23, 2021 at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, New Jersey.

To be selected for the “New Leaders of the Bar” feature, rising legal stars under the age of 40 had to demonstrate distinct practice niches, leadership qualities, and a commitment to pro bono and charitable work. They had to already have notable accomplishments under their belts while also possessing great potential, as is the case with Ms. Janukowicz. She joined Gibbons as an associate in 2013 and soon made herself an indispensable member of every matter team to which she is assigned, quickly becoming a go-to associate and trusted advisor to firm clients. She has the ability to handle a broad array of complex criminal and commercial matters in both federal and state courts, and her experience is wide-ranging, up to and including participation in trials.

In addition to her formidable legal talent, Ms. Janukowicz has established herself as a trusted and loyal teammate who fosters a collegial and supportive atmosphere at the firm. In 2019, upon her promotion to Director (partner), she was also elevated to Director of Professional Development, Retention, and Associate Recruitment. In this position, among many other responsibilities, Ms. Janukowicz is the first person prospective associates meet when they interview at the firm, and she makes critical decisions concerning the firm’s next generation. Since she has taken on this role, her focus has been to continue to bring in diverse legal talent who are committed to the firm, its clients, and the legal community.

Ms. Janukowicz also maintains a pro bono practice and is active in many other volunteer initiatives both inside and outside Gibbons. She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was Articles Editor and Symposium Board Member for the Journal of Sports & Entertainment Law, and her B.A., cum laude, from New York University. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Katharine S. Hayden, U.S.D.J., United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
