Jennifer Phillips Smith, Co-Chair of the Real Property Group at Gibbons P.C., has been named one of New Jersey’s “Best 50 Women in Business” by NJBIZ, one of the leading business news publications in the state. Winners were recognized at an awards reception and ceremony on October 26 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset.

The Best 50 Women in Business awards program honors New Jersey’s most successful and influential women in business who are engaged in high-profile work in their fields. The 50 honorees were selected by an independent panel of judges, based on their dedication to business growth in the state, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement, and advocacy for women. Ms. Smith joins fellow Gibbons attorneys Christine A. Amalfe, Kelly Ann Bird, Jennifer A. Hradil, Camille V. Otero, Susanne Peticolas, and Kristin D. Sostowski, as well as the firm’s Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, June M. Inderwies, all past recipients of this award.

“Jennifer handles some of the largest, most complex real estate projects in the area. So it is no wonder she is raising her profile throughout the New Jersey legal community and earning recognitions like this award,” said Peter J. Torcicollo, Managing Director of Gibbons.

“Over the past few years, Jen has become an even more valued member of the Gibbons team by committing her time and energy to exploring new and creative ways to serve our clients,” said Patrick C. Dunican Jr., the firm’s Executive Chairman. “We congratulate her on this befitting acknowledgement.”

At Gibbons, Ms. Smith helps New Jersey businesses expand and optimize markets and operations through the development and redevelopment of real property for their facilities. She counsels clients on matters ranging from redevelopment projects that span hundreds of acres to issues impacting small business owners; represents clients in connection with mixed-use, industrial, restaurant, residential, retail, office, medical, educational, and senior living projects; and maintains a niche practice in liquor licensing and alcoholic beverage control. She is also the firm’s lead land use attorney on several of New Jersey’s largest, most high-profile development and redevelopment projects, including a $2.5 billion redevelopment considered the largest mixed-use development in state history; the transformation of Asbury Park’s Waterfront; and the development of a 206,000-square-foot industrial building at a former paper mill site.

Ms. Smith joined Gibbons as an associate in 2008, became an Equity Director in 2018, and, in 2022, was named Co-Chair of the firm’s Real Property Group. In this role, she oversees matter management and staffing, group workload, fees and billings, associate training, client relations, and business development. In addition to NJBIZ, she has been featured in such industry publications as Chambers USA, ROI-NJ, Profiles in Diversity Journal, and New Jersey Law Journal.
