Iona College created the Legacy Award to acknowledge unique individuals who have chosen to give of themselves and their resources to benefit the lives of others. Previous recipients include Francis Cardinal Spellman, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Alfred F. Kelly, and Roger Staubach, among many other notable honorees. Mr. Dunican’s award reflects his longstanding dedication to numerous charitable and community organizations and programs. He is the Secretary of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and serves on the Board of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and on the President’s Council of Valley Hospital Foundation. When Mr. Dunican served as Grand Marshal of the 78th Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March 2013, the parade organization, under his direction, raised more money for more charitable entities than it had ever before done in its history. In addition, at Gibbons, he has devoted significant resources to the dynamic “Gibbons Cares” charitable and pro bono platform, through which the firm annually donates more than $1 million and substantial volunteer services to worthy community causes.

Mr. Dunican has also long been committed to both Catholic institutions of higher learning that he attended. He is a second-generation Iona graduate, having earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the college in 1988. He currently serves on the Planning Committee for the 25th Reunion of his Iona graduating class. In addition, as a dedicated alumnus of Seton Hall University School of Law, Mr. Dunican serves as Vice-Chair of Seton Hall Law’s Board of Visitors and Co-Chair of the Board of Visitors’ Strategic Planning Committee. He also was Co-Chair of the Seton Hall Law Rising Campaign, which was publicly launched in 2007 and exceeded its goal of raising $25 million for the law school. Mr. Dunican was named Seton Hall Law’s Distinguished Alumnus in 2011.
