Justin M. Silverberg, an associate in Gibbons P.C.’s Business & Commercial Litigation Group, has been appointed by Gov. Phil Murphy to the New Jersey Israel Commission, effective August 16, 2024.
“I am honored and grateful to have been appointed to the New Jersey Israel Commission by Gov. Phil Murphy, as both places are near to my heart. I look forward to working with the members of the Commission and the Commission’s counterparts in Israel to enhance New Jersey’s firm partnership with Israel,” said Mr. Silverberg.
Established in 1989 and operated under the auspices of the New Jersey Department of State, the Commission promotes “economic, scientific, educational and cultural ties with the State of Israel, one of New Jersey’s most important trading partners.” It comprises five committees focused on key areas related to this mission, and its public members, most of whom are prominent Jewish residents of New Jersey, are appointed to these committees by the Governor. Mr. Silverberg is among the Commission’s approximately 80 appointees.
Examples of the Commission’s projects and achievements, showcased in its most recent annual report, include the ARC Sheba at Liberty Science Center, a futuristic medical research facility; a Choose New Jersey delegation to Israel to meet with business leaders interested in doing business in the Garden State; and increased economic relations, with an increase in 2022 bilateral trade to $1.72 billion.
