Frank T. Cannone, Chair of Gibbons P.C.’s Corporate Group, is one of only 37 business leaders throughout the state to earn a 2024 ICON Award from NJBIZ, one of New Jersey’s premier business news publications. Winners were honored at an awards ceremony on August 13 at The Marigold in Somerset, New Jersey and will be profiled in a special supplement to an upcoming issue of NJBIZ.

NJBIZ launched the ICON Awards program in 2017 to celebrate New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 who have achieved noteworthy success, demonstrated strong leadership and unique vision, and shown a longstanding commitment to the New Jersey business community. The ICON Awards acknowledge years of exceptional work in the state and in the winners’ respective industries. Mr. Cannone is the sixth Gibbons attorney to receive this award, after Peter J. Torcicollo (2023), Lawrence S. Lustberg (2022), Thomas J. Cafferty (2019), James R. Zazzali (2018), and retired Gibbons attorneys Karen A. Giannelli (2020) and Michael R. Griffinger (2017).

With exceptional leadership skills and extensive corporate transactional experience, Mr. Cannone has built and led the Corporate Group, as Chair, to a national practice, with thousands of closed transactions totaling billions of dollars in value. Under his direction, Gibbons has become known for its complex work and strong capital markets-based approach to corporate practice, which is uncommon among New Jersey-headquartered firms. He has also expanded the services and value-added offerings of the Group, personally overseeing the establishment of its Governmental Transactions, Public Private Partnerships (P3), Private Equity, Early-Stage Business, and Renewable Energy Finance practices, and expansion of the Cross-Border Transactions practice, among others.

With Mr. Cannone at the helm, the Corporate Group earned six consecutive rankings on the DOW JONES Private Equity Analyst list of the nation’s “Most Active Law Firms” for private equity, and has been acknowledged for its handling of major transactions for midmarket companies and middle-market deals for major companies. Additionally, the Group has been included in the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business®

Mr. Cannone, himself, has been included on The Legal 500’s 2023 and 2024 M&A Private Practice Powerlist, which showcases leading practitioners across the U.S. He also was selected for NJBIZ’s 2022 “Leaders in Law” list, has been recognized consistently by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers®, and New Jersey Super Lawyers, and was inducted in 2021 into the Hall of Fame of the Seton Hall Stillman School of Business Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
