As President, Ms. Amalfe will play a key role in advancing the NJSBA’s mission to advocate for the legal profession, promote access to justice, and support the independence and integrity of the judicial branch. Ms. Amalfe will serve as the primary spokesperson for the NJSBA and communicate its message to the public. She will travel across the state to promote the association’s interests, foster relationships with the county and affinity bars, meet with the judiciary to discuss issues of shared purpose, and advocate for the association’s legislative initiatives in Trenton. She will also speak at events to welcome law students for orientation and recently graduated students into the profession, and at gatherings that recognize excellence in the law, pro bono services, and the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the profession. In addition to the responsibilities of the Officers and Board of Trustees, Ms. Amalfe will serve on the Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee and the Finance and Operations Committee.
Over the past three decades as an NJSBA member, Ms. Amalfe has served the association in various capacities, including as an Executive Committee Member of the Labor & Employment Law Section, Trustee of the Women in the Profession Section, and member of the Higher Education, Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments, Judicial Administration, Legislative, Amicus, and Pro Bono Committees, in addition to six years as an At-Large Trustee and, more recently, Secretary, Treasurer, Second Vice President, First Vice President, and, immediately preceding her future role, President-Elect.
“Assuming the presidency of the NJSBA is truly an honor,” said Ms. Amalfe. “I look forward to the year ahead, carrying on the mission of this longstanding and venerable organization and serving its valued members.”
“We congratulate Christine on her rise to President of the NJSBA,” remarked Peter J. Torcicollo, Gibbons’s Managing Director. “Given her strong leadership at both the firm and in the broader legal community, coupled with her unwavering dedication to the law, we have no doubt she will make a significant impact at the NJSBA.”
At Gibbons, Ms. Amalfe represents corporations in the areas of employment law and litigation, while managing a team of more than 20 lawyers and overseeing legal, administrative, and business development functions for one of the firm’s most active business units. She is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades and is included among the region’s leading employment lawyers by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America®, and Thomson Reuters New Jersey Super Lawyers, the last of which lists her among the state’s Top 10 attorneys and Top 50 female attorneys. Additionally, she is an elected Fellow in both the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers and American College of Trial Lawyers, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society comprising less than .5 percent of American lawyers.
As an advocate for women in the legal profession throughout her career, Ms. Amalfe co-founded the internationally recognized Gibbons Women’s Initiative, has served as President of the National Association of Women Lawyers Foundation, and is a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association.
