2015 NJBIZ Health Care Power 50 List Features Gibbons Government Affairs Department Chair
March 24, 2015
William J. Castner, Jr., Chair of the Gibbons P.C. Government Affairs Department, has been named to the 2015 NJBIZ Health Care Power 50 list. This list, published annually, was compiled and ranked by the editors of NJBIZ after discussions with leaders in the New Jersey healthcare industry.
NJBIZ notes of Mr. Castner: “The well-regarded lawyer at Gibbons is building a well-regarded team of lawyers and lobbyists, including pulling Christine Stearns (a favorite on this list) away from the NJBIA. ‘There’s a strong team there, but Castner has been the one that’s been the head of the health care practice there,’ said one fan. ‘Very impressive guy.’”
“This honor recognizes Bill’s vast knowledge of today’s healthcare industry,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons. “Our clients benefit from Bill’s experience in this constantly evolving industry.”
Mr. Castner has consistently earned a place on PolitickerNJ’s “Power List” of the 100 most politically influential individuals in the state. He was recently announced as the new Chair of the Gibbons Government Affairs Department, which has been ranked by the New Jersey Law Journal as the state’s top lawyer-lobbying firm for seven consecutive years. In this role, he oversees all areas of the practice, including client relations, matter management, and staffing. A former Chief Counsel to the Governor of New Jersey, Mr. Castner began his professional career drafting legislation for the New Jersey Legislature’s nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services from 1997 to 1999. In 2002, then General Assembly Speaker Albio Sires appointed him as General Counsel to the New Jersey General Assembly, where he served as the chief legal adviser to that body. In 2006, Mr. Castner was promoted by Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr., to the Executive Director of the New Jersey General Assembly Majority Office, becoming the youngest director in that office’s history. As Chief Counsel to the Governor in 2009, Mr. Castner drafted executive orders and provided legal advice to the Governor on a wide variety of legislative, regulatory, and policy matters.
