#MeToo, a popular social media hashtag, spread virally in October 2017 as a response to numerous sexual harassment and sexual assault claims, particularly in the workplace environment. As with any sensitive issue, crisis management plays a crucial role when someone is confronted with high-profile allegations of #MeToo.

We will have an interactive discussion focusing on best practices for those confronted with a #MeToo crisis, including strategies for handling the internal fallout and the external negative publicity. Topics of discussion will also include:

    • Importance of responding to allegations immediately
    • Assurance that the investigation is completed by a qualified, neutral, and credible investigator
    • Possibility of false accusations and protection of the reputations of those involved pending the completion of the investigation
    • Considerations for internal company communications
    • External response by the company and the use of an outside communications firm
  • Ways to move forward from the negative publicity
