In the aftermath of the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic Party won the majority in the House of Representatives and will have a preponderance of voting influence in selecting the next Speaker of the House. In the Senate, the Republican Party increased its majority, giving the United States a split Congress for the first time since 2014.
