Speaker, 40th Annual Autism Conference, "HIB Violations and the Special Needs Student"

What happens when a child with special needs is accused of a Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying (HIB) violation? What protection does a child have if the alleged behavior is connected to his or her disability? Does the child’s Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan provide any protection? The presentation will provide an overview of New Jersey’s Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act. The presenters will also review the policies and procedures associated with a manifestation determination. The presenters will take the attendees through a series of case scenarios and conduct an interactive conversation discussing whether the scenarios present a HIB violation or a manifestation of the child’s disability.
