Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce the launch of its Environmental Department as part of the reorganization of its Real Property & Environmental (RPE) group into two distinct administrative units. This realignment serves to accommodate the increasing independence of the firm’s environmental law and litigation practice from its real property practice, as well as the volume, scope, complexity, and significance of the environmental matters undertaken. Camille V. Otero, a firm Director formerly of the RPE Department, has been named Chair of the Environmental Department.

Director Douglas J. Janacek, who chaired the former RPE Department, remains Chair of the Real Property Department, which focuses on land use, development, and transactional real estate.

“While our real property and environmental attorneys continue to collaborate on major real estate transactions and development projects with wide-ranging environmental aspects, our Environmental Department plays a leading role in a growing number of substantial, stand-alone environmental matters, including some of the most high-profile multi-party remediation matters ongoing in New Jersey and New York,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons. “By spinning off the practice into a full-fledged department, we are giving our environmental attorneys the administrative infrastructure and management resources they need to support a practice that is expanding in size and significance to the firm and our clients.”

With a dozen attorneys admitted in New Jersey and New York—who have both public and private sector experience and strong working ties with regulatory agencies and include former environmental scientists and engineers—the Gibbons Environmental Department is one of the Mid-Atlantic’s top-tier practices in the field. The Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, for example, lists every Director in the Department, as well as the overall practice, while Best Lawyers ranks the practice highly at both the national and regional levels. The team handles complex litigation and provides comprehensive advice in connection with broad regulatory compliance, real estate transactions, and development and redevelopment, including Brownfields projects.
