As part of its annual “Professional Excellence” awards program, the New Jersey Law Journal has named the Class Action Defense Team at Gibbons its “Litigation Department of the Year” in the Class Action category.
This year’s Professional Excellence Awards event was held on June 20 at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, New Jersey. The publication sponsors these awards to showcase talented litigators throughout New Jersey, focusing on trial and appellate work in both state and federal jurisdictions, as well as key results achieved in the past year. Awards are presented in the general litigation category and in a variety of practice area categories.
This year marks the fourth time Gibbons has been selected as a leading litigation firm by this publication. Gibbons was previously chosen in the Products Liability (2016) and Commercial Litigation (2013) categories, while in 2014, the firm was named the General Litigation Department of the Year.
The Gibbons Class Action Team was awarded in its category based on a number of recent matters handled by its experienced attorneys, who have instant credibility in the state and federal courts in New Jersey and beyond. The law journal noted in particular several cases in an up-and-coming area of law under the New Jersey Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act, as well as a significant Consumer Fraud Act class suit. The practice was profiled in a recent interview with its leader, Michael R. McDonald, in the New Jersey Law Journal’s series on Litigation Department of the Year winners.
The Class Action Team at Gibbons adeptly handles state and nationwide class actions asserting the range of common law and statutory claims in various jurisdictions and has set significant precedents in the consumer class action arena. This seasoned team has defended lawsuits on behalf of major pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer product manufacturers, among various other companies, addressing claims relating to false advertising of consumer products; distribution of allegedly counterfeit pharmaceutical products; products liability class actions involving automobiles, medical devices, and lead in cosmetics; and vehicle service contracts, rent-to-own contracts, and other issues. Gibbons attorneys also defend management in employment class actions, particularly those alleging wage and hour violations. More information on the practice can be found here.
