Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) has named Gibbons one of the top four intellectual property practices in New Jersey in the current edition of IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners. David E. De Lorenzi, Chair of the Gibbons Intellectual Property Department, and Sheila F. McShane, a Director in the Department, were two of the intellectual property lawyers featured as leading individuals for this area of practice. This is the fourth straight year this publication has recognized the firm and these two attorneys.

Intellectual Asset Management magazine (www.iam-magazine.com) reports on intellectual property as a business asset and how IP can be best managed and exploited. IAM Patent 1000 resulted from extensive research over the course of five months. More than 1,500 phone interviews were conducted to gather market intelligence on the nominees. The publication notes the following about Gibbons:

“In New Jersey, there are only a small number of firms competing within patent practice and Gibbons is among the best.” This middle market-focused ensemble has enjoyed a busy year, receiving a deluge of work in the post-grant space following changes introduced by the America Invents Act; its combination of litigation and prosecution expertise makes it an ideal candidate to handle US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) contested proceedings. The transactional practice is also building up a head of steam – many of the lawyers here are former in-house counsel and they bring a welcome commercial perspective to licensing and due diligence work. IP chair David De Lorenzi is the driving force and a seasoned trial lawyer and all-round counsellor. He draws clients from the life sciences, telecommunications and consumer products areas. A dab hand at Hatch-Waxman Act patent litigation, Sheila McShane is a former systems engineer with the technical chops to tackle cases at the upper ends of the complexity scale.”

IAM is the latest high-profile industry publication to recognize the firm as a leader in the IP arena. The Gibbons IP Department and its attorneys consistently rank among the leading practices in publications such as the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Best Lawyers®, and New Jersey Super Lawyers.
