The Gibbons Government & Regulatory Affairs Group has been New Jersey’s top law firm-based governmental affairs practice by revenue for well over a decade and continues to grow. The firm represents government and regulatory affairs clients before all levels of New Jersey State government, including the Legislature, Executive Branch, and independent authorities and agencies. We also represent numerous other clients in legal matters before the Office of Administrative Law and in the courts.

We are seeking a motivated attorney to join our group as an Associate in our Trenton office. In order to perform the essential functions of the position, candidates must have the requisite experience, which includes at least 2 to 3 years as a licensed New Jersey attorney working in State government (for the Legislature or Executive Branch) or in the private sector in the government and regulatory affairs arena.

Essential Functions:

  1. Providing strategic advice to clients in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors concerning legislative, regulatory, and governmental affairs processes.
  2. Attending and monitoring legislative committees and regulatory proceedings on behalf of various clients.
  3. Assisting the attorneys within the Government & Regulatory Affairs Group on client-specific assignments, including scheduling meetings; drafting letters, white papers, and desk memoranda; and creating advocacy position statements in support of our clients’ positions.
  4. Attending meetings and events outside of the office, including early morning or early evening.
  5. Registering with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission as a governmental affairs agent in order to represent clients before the State Legislature and Executive Branch.

Experience and Skills:

  1. Admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
  2. At least 2 to 3 years of experience working in the New Jersey Legislature or Executive Branch, or in the government affairs/ public policy field.
  3. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  5. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects.
  6. Familiarity interacting with elected officials and high-level staff members.

Transactional Real Estate Attorney
Office Location: Newark

Gibbons is seeking a transactional real estate attorney to join the firm’s Real Property Group. Requirements:

  • At least four (4) years of transactional real estate experience with a private firm in New Jersey or New York
  • Barred in New Jersey and New York (or barred in one and able to become barred in the other)
  • Significant experience with commercial real estate financing (preferably borrower side)
  • Significant experience with commercial leasing (landlord and tenant side)
  • Experience with acquisitions and dispositions (purchase and sale) considered a bonus
  • Experience with redevelopment work in New Jersey considered an additional bonus

Labor and Employment Associate

We are looking for a 3-5 year labor & employment associate.  While this is primarily a traditional labor position representing employers, the ideal candidate also will have an interest in and experience with employment counseling and employment litigation including the defense of discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims. NJ admission is required.  NY and PA admission is a plus.  The ideal candidate will have specific experience in representing employers in matters regarding traditional labor, including handling unfair labor practice charges, NLRB elections and related representation issues, advising employers regarding union organizing and neutrality agreements; negotiating collective bargaining agreements; handling grievances and arbitrations and responding to strikes/picketing.

Financial Restructuring & Creditors’ Rights Associate

The Financial Restructuring & Creditors’ Rights (“FRCR”) Group at Gibbons is seeking to hire associates in our Wilmington, Delaware and Newark, New Jersey offices. The FRCR Group is a growing and diverse practice with a national footprint. FRCR attorneys practice in all areas of bankruptcy and insolvency law, with a focus on sophisticated corporate reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings and insolvency counseling, and related litigation. Clients include official committees of unsecured creditors and bondholders, debtors-in-possession, Chapter 11 and 7 trustees, secured creditors and lenders, indenture trustees, insurers, asset purchasers, lessors, and other significant creditors. Intellectual Property (Patent) Associate

Essential Functions:

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage U.S. and foreign patent portfolios related to small molecules and biologicals.
  • Provide strategic counseling on all aspects of patent law, e.g., portfolio exclusivity positions and drafting of freedom to operate and patent invalidity and non-infringement opinions.
  • Participate in and support patent litigations concerning small molecule and biologics (including ANDA litigations).
  • Work closely with clients to identify and protect new intellectual property, and counsel and educate client’s scientists and product development/business development teams on intellectual property matters.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required:

  • U.S. attorney with a minimum of 4 years of patent experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/life science field.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
    Advanced degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, or biochemistry or substantial R&D experience is preferred. However, a bachelor’s degree with additional experience as a practicing patent attorney would be considered.
  • Experience as an in-house lawyer in small molecule chemistry is considered a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. This is an extremely interactive role that requires excellent communication skills and the ability to both address complex IP issues and succinctly identify and communicate decisions to a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical patent applications globally, as well as in conducting freedom to operate and patent invalidity and non-infringement analyses.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgment.
