Paolo Strino Joins Gibbons in the Intellectual Property Department

Gibbons is pleased to announce that Paolo Strino has joined the firm as a Director in the Intellectual Property Department, expanding the international reach and depth of the firm’s well-established intellectual property practice. He will be a resident in the firm’s New York office.

Drawing on fifteen years of experience as in-house counsel at Alitalia North America and outside counsel (Pepper Hamilton and Lucas & Mercanti) both in the United States and Europe, Mr. Strino concentrates his practice in domestic and international trademark clearance and prosecution, trademark portfolio management, anti-counterfeiting enforcement, and U.S. and multi-national litigation. He represents clients in a broad array of industries ranging from chemical and pharmaceuticals, fashion, food and wine, media, entertainment, finance, insurance, and tourism.

Mr. Strino is highly regarded in the field of opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, for all stages from discovery to trial. He is among the most experienced attorneys on geographic certification marks having prosecuted many applications to register and maintain world-renowned indications of origin, including PROSECCO DOC, EMILIA, ASIAGO, and PECORINO ROMANO.

Mr. Strino is also proficient in copyright registration and enforcement, trade dress protection, licensing and distribution, trademark dilution, false advertising, internet and media law, domain name arbitration proceedings, technology transfer, and other vendor agreements. He also regularly advises clients on general corporate matters with a special focus on international and cross-border transactions.

Mr. Strino is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars in the United States and Europe. He is a member of the International Trademark Association. He serves as the Executive Secretary for the Columbian Lawyers, First Department (a leading membership association of lawyers of Italian heritage) and co-founded ALMA, an international association of legal professionals who have also pursued U.S. law degrees.

Mr. Strino received law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and, in Italy, from Universita’ Bocconi in Milan and Federico II in Naples. He is a member of the New York and Italy bars and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern of District of New York.
