Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Robert L. Johnson has been named the firm’s new Chief Diversity Officer and a Director in the firm’s Corporate Department.

“Rob’s wide range of talents, interests, and vision makes him exactly the right person to take the reins of our nationally recognized Diversity Initiative while also expanding his role in delivering the exceptional service that the clients of our highly regarded Corporate Department have come to expect,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons. “We are proud of his achievements and look forward to his upcoming efforts.”

Mr. Johnson is the firm’s second Chief Diversity Officer. In this position, he will oversee the award-winning Gibbons Diversity Initiative (GDI), developing and supporting various platforms to promote and achieve a broadly inclusive workforce and workplace through ethnic, gender, and other forms of diversity. He will focus on strengthening GDI’s effectiveness, reach, and impact on the legal community by directing strategies to enhance both the internal components of GDI – training, mentoring, retention, and innovative programming – and its external components, encompassing industry-wide thought leadership, pipeline programs for the profession’s future leaders, engagement with like-minded business associations, community outreach, and supplier diversity.

Mr. Johnson’s legal practice will continue to concentrate on mergers and acquisitions, securities regulations, corporate governance, public finance, cross-border transactions, and various other corporate transactional matters. He represents public and private companies, commercial banks, and governmental agencies and helps his business clients to expand their markets and establish significant presence throughout the region. Mr. Johnson joined Gibbons as an associate in 2007, and left the firm for two years to serve as Assistant Counsel to the Governor of New Jersey (2010-2012).

In 2014, the New Jersey Law Journal included Mr. Johnson as one of its “New Leaders of the Bar.”
