Gibbons P.C. is pleased to announce that Jennifer P. Smith, a Director in the firm’s Real Property Department, was named one of the New Jersey Law Journal’s New Leaders of the Bar for 2018. Ms. Smith was honored at the Professional Excellence Awards Dinner on June 21 and was profiled in a New Jersey Law Journal supplement earlier this month.

To be selected for the “New Leaders of the Bar” feature, rising legal stars under the age of 40 had to demonstrate distinct practice niches, leadership qualities, and a commitment to pro bono and charitable work. According to the publication, “the honorees come from a variety of backgrounds and handle a wide array of legal work, but each has made his or her mark, and shows promise for much, much more.”

“As Jennifer increasingly handles substantial components of some of the largest, most significant real estate projects our clients bring to us, it is no wonder she is raising her profile throughout the New Jersey legal community and earning recognition like the ‘New Leaders of the Bar’ award,” says Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Chairman and Managing Director of Gibbons.

At Gibbons, Ms. Smith counsels clients on real estate matters ranging from redevelopment projects spanning hundreds of acres to issues impacting small business owners. She represents clients seeking site plan approval and variances from numerous planning and zoning boards in connection with restaurant, residential, retail, office, financial, medical, educational, and mixed use projects. She also represents clients in redevelopment areas and has experience drafting and reviewing redevelopment documents, including redevelopment agreements and redevelopment plans. Ms. Smith has extensive experience in land use litigation, including both the defense of and objection to municipal land use approvals. Ms. Smith also practices in the area of liquor licensing and alcoholic beverage control, representing current or prospective licensees in obtaining liquor licenses or permits for on-premises or off-premises consumption.
