Patent law has historically been considered a moribund area of the law, hidebound in detail and obscure in legal terminology. Despite these perceptions, patent law has been outpacing the U.S. and global acceleration of business change. This Gibbons Academy session will highlight selected topics in recent changes in patent law, presented in a business view context.

Topics will include:

• the new America Invents Act (“AIA”), the most major reform to patent law implemented in more than 60 years;
• issues to consider under the AIA when discussing patent protection and enforcement with clients;
• reverse payments — where antitrust and patent law intersect — a current hot issue;
• and recent decisions furthering the strength of patents.
