Steven D. Johnson

Steven D. Johnson is a member of the Insurance Practices Group of the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation Department and practices in the area of commercial litigation with an emphasis on the representation of commercial property and casualty insurers in business disputes, coverage litigation and extra-contractual liability matters. He also has extensive experience in the representation of insurance producers (agents, brokers, MGAs, intermediaries and third-party administrators) and attorneys in professional liability matters.

Earlier in his legal career, Mr. Johnson worked at Wyeth Laboratories, where he managed domestic and international pharmaceutical products liability litigation for the company. In that capacity he served as Wyeth’s representative on the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (now PhRMA) Products Liability Committee. After returning to private practice, Mr. Johnson continued practicing in the pharmaceutical products liability area, serving as Defense Coordinator for Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas DES litigation and defending such products as corticosteroids, antipsychotic medications, muscle relaxants and laser surgical devices.

Mr. Johnson is also active in the field of legal ethics and professional responsibility, having served as a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association Professional Guidance Committee for twenty-one years and as its Co-Chairman for two years. As a result of these activities, he has counseled clients on issues relating to multi-jurisdictional practice, conflict waivers and mandatory/permissive disclosures under the Rules of Professional Conduct in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has been called upon to serve as an expert witness in this area of the law.
