The fundamental concept of privacy has dramatically influenced our views about how “Big Data” is created, used, disseminated, and protected – especially in 2013, when we witnessed the extent of privacy-related risks posed by rapidly advancing technology and globalization.

The Gibbons E-Discovery Task Force presents the 7th Annual E-Discovery Conference, “Privacy in the Electronic Age,” an all-day program that will provide a comprehensive overview of recent privacy related e-discovery issues, along with practical advice for in-house counsel and business executives on addressing these issues.

Mitchell Boyarsky and Kristin D. Sostowski, Directors in the Gibbons Employment & Labor Law Department, will participate in the panel, “Brave New Workplace: What Employers Need to Know to Protect Themselves.”

This panel will provide an overview of workplace rules concerning the collection, storage, and use of data have recently grown more complex. With lawmakers and judges struggling to balance their views on who should control data, employee expectations of privacy are lurking in the background. This session will discuss:

    • Document retention policies – what to keep when an employee departs
    • Litigation best practices – tips for holds, collection, and production
    • Social media, internet, and email usage – protecting your company’s interests while managing employee privacy expectations
  • BYOD – best practices for the mobile workforce
